I got dumped. And let’s face it, ice cream binges and drastic haircuts are never the best way to get a fresh start.
That said, with the next season of Millionaire Matchmaker filming in just a few short weeks, I had to get it together. I took down our pictures, threw out his cards and called my best friend. In true Ashlynn style, she showed up with wine and a game plan.
“Redecorate — this place looks SO sad!”
Okay, she’s not all sugar and sunshine, but she’s honest. I’m a Personal Assistant, not an interior designer! It was time to call in the experts. Enter our friends, Mat Herman and Alex Back. Next, we got down and dirty on the feng shui front.
According the principles of feng shui, goldfish bring luck into the home, but you can’t keep them in your bedroom or kitchen. Full disclosure: My last goldfish lived only four days. RIP Leslie. Everybody deserves a second chance, right?
Keep fresh flowers in your home for positive energy and get rid of clutter! As a personal assistant, my job can be 24/7, so I need my life at home to be simple. Having a clean, organized space keeps me sane. Plus, buying yourself flowers can be a little empowering. Last Valentine’s Day, he got me a chalkboard (shocking that we didn’t work out).
I still miss him and I hope his new girlfriend chokes on her own tongue next time they make out, but here’s to breaking up and the opportunity it gives us to start fresh.
There’s no instant fix, but let me just say — goldfish are GREAT listeners.

Just as you, I’m 24 and I got dumped a few months ago, so I’m kind in the situation where you were when you wrote it.
I just wanted to thank you for this post: it’s funny and has the right perspective on things: what matters now is going forward, even if the temptation of looking back is so strong and even if we still love them.
